12 Month Check Up

We had the twins 12 month check up today.

Jordan- 17lbs 12ozs & 28 inches
Ryan- 15lbs 12ozs & 28 inches

We voiced our concerns to the doctor about how small Ryan is. She ordered several blood tests, so poor Bill took Ryan to have 3 HUGE vials drawn. Ryan was a trooper!

The doctor called a few days later with the results: She said that his Thyroid was fine, his sugar was fine, his kidney function was fine, his liver was fine, his white count was fine. The only thing that was abnormal was his CO2 was 17. She said that normal CO2 is between 18-27. She said that there is some research that indicates that a slightly low CO2 level can be caused by the kidneys and is possibly linked to kids that just don’t grow as much or as fast. She isn’t concerned that he is unhealthy, she just wants a specialist to look at him and these labs to rule out anything more serious. The appointment at Cook's Childrens Hospital is January 25th... so we wait.

They had 3 shots. Ryan got a really high temperature a few days later of 102.6- that scared me. But was reassured by a friend that a high temp is one that is 104 for over 48 hours.

The babies are growing up so fast. Our little girl has been practicing crawling, but she won't do it. I guess it will happen in her own time. Both babies say mamamama and dadadadad but they don't call out to us. Ryan has been trying to say "og" = dog and "at" = cat. They both like to stand behind the Lion walker & practice letting go. Just afraid to stand on their own.

They have been eating a little of our food but they still prefer the thicker purees that I make or the Stage 2 jars. Their favs that I make: beets, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pears, peaches, butternut squash, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet potatoes & pumpkin. They were not fond of the eggplant.

At the 12 month checkup we requested a referral with ECI (Early Childhood Intervention). They come out talk to the parents & observe the babies to see if they are hitting their milestones. ECI will come out to our house December 31st.

Jordan will have a follow up for her heart in February. We are hoping that the PDA has closed all on its own & that she will not require medications or heart surgery! hoping!
