A few months ago we requested ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) to visit with us for Ryan's sleep issues, his lack of gaining weight & Jordan not crawling at 12 months (that is no longer an issue). ECI helps kids from newborn to the age of 3, it is based on your income & the rest the state of Texas pays for (we pay $50 a month after the 6th month of them visiting).
ECI was here 2 wks ago to weigh Ryan & came out this morning to weigh him again & he LOST 6oz.
Poor baby, why won't he eat.... it is so sad. A couple of months ago they suggested us adding butter, cheese, cream cheese to everything he ate- well we wanted him to have healthier eating habits than that. I am proud to say that they have never had a french fry, ice cream, juice or pizza yet! They have the rest of their lives to eat that junk, I will hold off as long as possible.
So today she suggested other ways for him to get in extra calories without adding more food. There is:
- BOOST® KID ESSENTIALS 1.5 Drink which is $70 for a 27 day supply ( http://www.nestlenutritionstore.com/general-itemdetail.asp?T1=BKE15R%20VANI%2027CS )
- RESOURCE® BENECALORIE® which is $45 for a 24 day supply (https://www.nestlenutritionstore.com/general-itemdetail.asp?T1=BENECAL 24CU )
... yikes!
For his 3 bottles of thawed breastmilk he will get 80 mls of the Essentials drink & the rest of the 120 mls will be thawed breastmilk- so he won't be getting more volume, just more calories. And the Benecalorie, we will add to different foods that he will eat. Over a day the Benecalorie will add 330 Calories to his diet & the Essentials drink will add 355 calories! ECI wants him to have a total of 927 calories a day to gain weight!
For the most part they are both refusing solid foods. I think Jordan would eat more but she follows Ryans lead & what he refuses, she then does. At this point I don't care if they eat solids or purees, Ryan just needs to gain weight.
Poor Jordan has her first cold or something. Her little eyes are swollen & gross gunk is coming out of them. Someone mentioned that this was the first signs of pink eye. Great! Probably got it from the display cases at the zoo on Saturday...
Still no word on Ryan's EEG. I am starting to think it was normal or they would have gotten back to us by now!
Aw! I'm sorry they aren't feeling well. Not eating can be because of the teeth. And as for J's eyes.. I hope it's not pink eye!
ReplyDeleteOh - and Pizza can be healthy! Bella eats it, and gets veggies and grains and dairy and protein from it. ;)
