As you are well aware we have been struggling for almost 2 yrs with feeding issues with both of the twins, more so with Ryan. In April or was it May, we had an evaluation at Cooks Children's Hospital to see if we could get into their 5 wk Feeding Therapy Program, it was a couple hrs each Friday. Well we were denied the program, the therapists said they didn't think the twins were "bad enough". This was very frustating to us. They did have use come back another time & called a couple times with advice, so they obiviously saw the kids needed help of some sort.
Well several months have passed and a friend of mine, her twins were accepted into the Cook's program. Pam said it was the biggest waste of time. Her boys learned to play with their food, drive trucks through pudding and other things like this. Well that isn't something I would have agreed with one bit, one of our "rules" is No Toys at the Table. So I am glad we were not accepted into that program, things happen for a reason.
In June we contacted Our Children's House it is in Dallas and the first appointment they had for an assessment was October 29th! Holy smokes!! We thought okay, well hopefully we won't need the appointment by then but we will keep the appointment anyway.
Here is a link to Our Children's House if you are interested in reading a little about it: http://www.baylorhealth.com/About/FactsStats/FactSheets/Pages/OCH.aspx
The appointment is tomorrow morning. We have to take foods that the kids typically eat. I already filled out a 29 page questionarre for each child. Several different professionals will talk to us & observe the kids. Our fear is that they too will tell us that the twins "are not bad enough" and send us home. But we are also afraid that they will accept Ryan into the program but not Jordan. If one goes into the program, they both need to go. They mimic each other so much and they both need help. Ryan we can tell from how small he is but Jordan has alot of the same issues. And then we fear that they both will be accepted into the program which means they will be checked into the hospital.
A big part of me wants them both in the program. All of these feeding issues have caused so much stress and turmoil in our lives. I feel like the worst mom in the world, who can't get her kids to eat.
We will let you know how things go tomorrow.
We are really tightening our belts lately. We tried to do a one time modification on our mortgage (our APR is currently 6% and the modification would lower it to 4.65%) this would save us $135 a month. Well, it was denied. There have been a few foreclosures in our community and several homes have sold way under market just to sell. Sadly that has brought down our property value to a value that didn't qualify us for the one time modification. We are thinking about refinancing to get the APR down to 4.3% and this would save us $235 per month. Think of refinancing my Pathfinder to get a lower rate as well, but we have to wait on that until we decide what to do with the refinance. Just all so stressful.
The kids have basically been sick for a month and a half. At the end of September they had some stomach bug for a couple weeks that almost put Ryan in the hospital if he hadn't started drinking liquids. He had lost almost 2 pounds in less than a week and for him at 19lbs, that is a HUGE amount to lose. The pedi said that if he didn't start eating/drinking in 24hrs, take him to Cooks Children's ER. Thankfully he started eating.
Now they have had nasty colds for over 2 wks. So much congestion, snot & hacky coughs. I feel so bad for them to be so uncomfortable.
I hope that life starts to calm down soon. I need this stress to go away!
