Food Therapy Evaluation

So this morning we had to be downtown at Cook's Children's Hospital for the Food Therapy Evaluation. We had to take foods the kids will eat & food they won't eat. They asked us bunches of questions & watched the kids eating & drinking. They had the kids try one of Cook's sippy cups because the twins were refusing ours- as usual. And they refused that cup also. They are only drinking about 2 or 3 ozs of liquid a day.

Their suggestion was to give the kids regular milk & add Carnation Instant breakfast to the milk. They said that since they are reflux babies, they have been "bringing back up" all that breastmilk for over a year. So the kids may not want to drink something that has that bad memory anymore. So I am horribly sad to try the regular milk when I worked so hard to make milk for them but I have to get over it & do what is best for them. They also suggested that we give the kids juice, which we have been avoiding.

Food wise, they said to put olive oil & calorie boosters in everything. Also to add butter to everything to add extra calories. So there went our plans of having the kids eat healthy. They also suggested adding icecream or milkshakes... this is just so frustrating, we didn't want to load our kids up on junk! We are afraid that this will cause unhealthy habits later.

After the evaluation, they decided that the kids were not "bad enough" for them to be put in the Feeding Therapy. So Bill & I left really frustrated! We were hoping this Therapy would be the trick to getting the kids to eat better. So we are mad that the kids will not get the therapy that we think they need & we are mad that all of our healthy plans for their eating are kinda thrown out the window & our hopes that they would be on breastmilk until 2 are thrown in the garbage.

Not a good day.
